I can talk to animals. Now I can create fire. I'm a freak. That's the only explanation I've got.
Grace has never realized that she was the only one who could talk to animals until her friend makes fun of her for it. She didn't know she could create fire, until she burned her house down while her parents were away, making people think she was suicidal. She didn't know how easily you could lose friends at High School, until it happened to her.
