Eleven-year-old Princess Jamie Holloway of the Kingdom Lannina has strict orders from her parents while they host an international summit: stay in your room and do your homework. But when Jamie and her best friend Lizzie can't resist sneaking down to the palace kitchen for her favorite gooey chocolate-chip cookies, she overhears something she can't ignore: The Crown Jewels have been stolen! 

When a visiting King becomes the prime suspect, Jamie's temperamental father threatens war. As if that wasn't bad enough, she overhears her parents' plan to send her away to boarding school for as long as it takes to keep her safe.  

But Jamie has a fight of her own: she refuses to let her country fall into war or leave her best friend to fend for herself. After all, as an avid reader of mysteries, she's sure she can find the Crown Jewels before her parents can do anything rash. 

With the help of her fearless best friend, Jamie uncovers clues around the palace to find the real culprit. But, as she faces secret passageways, traitorous guards, and a yellow-eyed monster, she discovers the thief is much closer than she thought. Jamie is in a rush to find the Crown Jewels before her parents send her away and she's separated from her best friend.
