Kenny and Butters weren't always friends. In fact, It all started because of Cartman. Cartman found out how easy it was to manipulate Butters, so he introduced him into the group (Main four).

Kenny despised how Cartman was using Butters, an innocent soul full of pure love and kindness. Kenny felt guilt for the poor boy and decided to show Butters what a true friend acts like. They quickly became best friends, the two boys falling for each other in the process.
