Charlotte Hawthorne has never had an easy life. Being a child of Hades, she has had to constantly run from spirits, monsters, and demons seeking her power as a half-blood. Being a fire kitsune, the Princess of the Flame and the duaghter of Astoria Hawthorne draws even more attention. Years ago, she traveled to Michigan, where she was originally born, from Camp Halfblood to learn more about her mother.

When she found nothing, she traveled to New Orleans for college. From there, her life took turns she never thought would occur. After her years in college were done she had nowhere to stay. But then, one night, a family of vampires offered to give her a place to live. During her years there, many unexpected things happened. She made friends, she gained more control over her abilities as a kitsune and a demi-god, she fell in love. But then...she discovered a secret. She was far more than just a kitsune, she was the mythical Fire Echo, and once she discovered what the vampires were going to do to her to claim her power, she fled. She ran all the way to California where she was hoping to find a place hidden away from the supernatural world, but she discovered the opposite. She discovered a Beacon.

As she continues to run when neccessary and hide from her pursuers, she meets new and strange beings and people along with old friends and complicated relationships.
