Mckenna Blake is forced back into the dramatic world of her hometown - The Outerbanks.

Kenna is suspended from her stuck up boarding school and begs to return home when she reads a news article that two of her friends are dead after a police chase. She has to navigate between helping her friends on a journey to find gold and avoiding the boy who's heart she broke. Her story travels between present and past as she tries to make sure her choices don't lead to her own downfall.

"So you got suspended for basically no reason?" JJ ask. I let out an annoyed sigh.
"Yup." I state, popping the 'p'. "How have you been?" I ask in a more serious tone. JJ knows what I mean by this question. I'm not just simply asking how his day has gone. I'm asking if he is holding up okay after everything he's been through. I can't imagine what it's like to think that the person who is basically your brother is dead. I don't know what I would do if my brother died. I would want to go with him honestly. 
"Better." Is all that JJ says.
"Better now that you know John B is alive?" I ask the obvious question, but JJ shakes his head. He opens his mouth, then pauses. He takes another puff from the joint. The smoke lightly blows on my skin as he exhales. The way he is looking at me makes my heart race. It's like he's examining a painting in a museum- delicately observing.
"Better now that you're here."

takes place after the events of season 1 (edit: I wrote this way before season 2 or 3 came out so yuh) It's been a month since John B and Sarah have been pronounced dead. No bodies were found which gives them the smallest sliver of hope. But hope of what? That their friends somehow survived that deadly storm? That their bodies are still floating around somewhere in the Pacific? There is no hope anymore. John B, their best friend, is dead. There's nothing more to it. He's dead and so is Sarah. Coming to terms with this has been one of the hardest and single most heartbreaking thing any of the pogues have had to deal with. The floor board made a creaking sound and Rafe started to turn his head, but before he could turn it all the way, I pulled his head back to face me.
