Hope Mikaelson, The Tribrid, and Avis Gray, The Upgraded Heretic, have hated each other since they were children. The Mikaelson family took Avis in at a young age, when she was just a witch unsure of her own power, constantly being tossed aside by foster families or running away from them like her life depends on it. When Klaus Mikaelson found her, he figured out who she was quite fast: the lost daughter of Silas and Qetsiyah.

Upon taking the young witch in, Hope and Avis bickered from the very start. They pushed each other's buttons, always competed to be the best during Freya's magic lessons, and once they were sent to the Salvatore School together, the competition continued to increase. It was a game to them, to be the best, to beat the other, to prove themselves.
