The king of Yfir needs an heir to the Viking throne. It has long been the tradition that an heir is not named by gender or birth, but by his or her courage, strength and cunning. Thus, inciting the heir trials, all regions must send one competitor. The regions are ruled by the dragon families. Each family has long ago received the breath of a fading dragon, giving their families magic and the right to rule the lands. Freyka Alvrir, 17 years old, is the daughter of the king. She is expected to win the trials and continue her family's right to rule as strongest dragon family. However, her disdain for her father and her family's oppressive rule drives her desire to end their lineage with her own. She will do everything to escape her faith and ensure her close friend, Olwyn Læknir, will win. Even if it means dying herself. When Freyka is paired with Vyn Vesstarsson, the heir of a rivaling dragon family, they strike an reluctant alliance. This is a rewrite of my old story, Battle Scars. There will be a few plot changes but nothing too major. ---------------------------- The Alryne tribe was known to be a very power-hungry group of Vikings, however they have remained quiet for generations. Now the tribe has faded into legend. However, their current leader, Brendan the Battle Winner, has found the location of the King of Dragons. And he wants it for himself. It is located on the island of Berk, but that island is known to have dragon-riding warriors who have defeated villains such as Viggo Grimborn and even Drago Bludvist, so he must plan carefully. He starts by sending out a group of scouts lead by his daughter Brenna, and in that group is a girl named Alice Flarson. On their journey to Berk, they are attacked by one of the rarest and feared dragons in the world: the Flightmare. A dragon that glows as bright as the sun and is capable of freezing its enemies in fear. The dragon is struck down, but Alice finds it injured on the small island where the group temporarily set up camp. She frees the dragon and flees back to her camp, but as time goes on she finds herself going back to find the dragon and even befriending it. During all of this she discovers a side to dragons that no one from her tribe ever saw, and she makes it her job to warn the chief of Berk before Alryne can take the king of dragons and put the entire dragon kind at jeopardy. War against Alryne is inevitable, but Alice thinks she might be able to help Berk prepare for the battle ahead.
