Ali Anglesey is the picture of grace, elegance, and poise. She's worked hard to be perfect girl appearance wise, aesthetic wise, friend wise and work wise, but it's all an act. An act she's been able to keep up for nearly ten years.
After a fall out with the director of her ballet company though, Ali decides to go from full-time ballerina to full-time college student. Finding herself saddened by the loss of the one and only constant in her life since she was eight years old, she tries to be positive about pursuing a new adventure. That is until an unexpected change in events lands her in Professor Henry Davenport's lecture hall.
As her past begins to come back to haunt her, Ali starts to wonder if she's made a terrible mistake stepping out of the safety of her bubble. Will she make it through the semester in one piece or will the handsome Professor threaten to tear apart the carefully constructed life she's built for herself and rip open old wounds she's buried deeply beneath years of toe tape and bandages?

"Why are you doing this to me?" The grey swirls look up from the stupid book he's reading. They glower in the dim lights. "And what am I doing to you, Amaya?" Hayes asks calmly and I ball my hands into fists, seething at his ignorance. "Well?" "You're hurting me." "I'm protecting you." He says, glancing back at the book. "By pushing people away from me? By stopping me from doing what I want? When did that become your choice?" "From the moment I stuck that ring on your finger and promised myself that I'll never let you be in that same position as you were last year." He snaps his book shut, and glares down at the Rolex enclosed on his wrist. "So that's it? You'll just keep me under your control?" "Darling, I'm just trying to protect you. Why can't you see that?" My Professor rises from his seat and runs his hands down his suit. "When we get married-" "If we get married." The grey swirls snap to me like lightening and his jaw flexes. My heartbeat quickens and I make a turn towards the door, now desperately wanting to leave his office. "If we get married?" He repeats, walking dangerously quick towards me as I try for the door. "If we get married?" Slam! His sudden closeness to me, the way I can feel his hot breath by my neck is enough to send me spiralling in both fear and excitement. Hayes spins me around and pushes me back against the door. He grabs my chin and forces me to look up at him, his gaze sending jolts to my lower stomach. "When we get married." He utters, trailing his thumb along my bottom lip. "When we get married, my love. Say it to me." "When we get married." I whisper weakly, my eyes glued to his face. "Good." His lips curl upwards and my cheeks flush against my will. I wait for him to kiss me, I wait for him to tell me that he loves me. But instead he takes a step back, glancing down at his watch. "So what's your type?" "What do you mean?" I pause, looking up from my book to meet the eyes of my dear friend. "Type of what?" She shakes her head with a chuckle. Her head then jerks to her boyfriend, busy trying to figure out a solution in his work. "What type of guy do you like?" "I don't really have one." I reply. "Come on, there must be something a guy does that catches your attention." My eyes casually glance around the courtyard, trying to figure out a quick response to her question. But then I hear a voice speak just to the right of us, Professor Abel happily talking to Mr. Levine. "Well?" "Older." I mumble. "Someone older." "Just older?" His deep grey eyes soften slightly in the sunlight. "Someone... colder too." "So you want someone as bad as Professor Abel?" My friend jokes poking my side with her fingers. I snap my head back to her, surprised at her question. To brush off the embarrassment I shrug my shoulders, faking a smile but my heart is pounding furiously. "Haha, very funny." It's as if our conversation has been leaked when my eyes rest back on the tall individual. The grey swirls are staring right back at me, his colleague oblivious of his wandering eyes. His expression is stern but in the light it seems as though his lips are curled up, making my stomach do a flip. "My type."
