Wish's Desire by _Bajun_

Wish knew the rules of survival better than most-learned them young, with bloodied knuckles and empty stomach nights in Midas's unforgiving underbelly. The city was a glittering lie, its promise of fortune thin as a hologram, reality lurking beneath: grime, corruption, and the unspoken brutality of those who wielded power like a blade. He'd climbed from gutter rat to Desire's most coveted possession, a sleek predator hidden behind the polished facade of a high-priced escort. At Desire, he learned the art of manipulation, sharpened his charm into a weapon, and turned his own body into a carefully constructed illusion, perfected to draw out the dark desires of Midas's elite. Now, those same skills were keeping him alive-but barely. Hunted by government agents and Solstice Corp enforcers, Wish was caught in a tightening noose, each breath of Midas's polluted air heavy with paranoia. Corporate mercenaries stalked his every move, and the gleaming towers around him felt more like prison walls, closing in inch by inch. Yet Wish thrived in chaos, his heartbeat strongest in the storm's center. Survival was never enough; he needed answers-why was he the target? What sinister game was playing out behind the corporate curtains? His only path was straight through the web of secrets choking the city. Trust was scarce currency, allies fleeting shadows. He would leverage every trick he'd ever learned, twist every whispered confession collected in Desire's velvet rooms into weapons of his own. The hunted would become the hunter. Wish knew the odds were steep, but then again, danger was his oldest friend. And in Midas, beneath neon-lit skies bleeding into smog-choked streets, the only way out was to fight-not just to live, but to tear down the gilded cage around him, piece by corrupted piece.

Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. But with every step she takes, she finds the organization, or the facility, as they call it, becoming more and more suspicious. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! "Last night, I had a dream the world ended. Half the population disappeared, and unfathomable eldritch beasts shambled out of an unending darkness." In a world with no sun and bloodthirsty creatures roaming the all consuming dark, the only places still safe are the small compounds that managed to get walls up before all came crashing down. Now, life is simple. Stay inside the walls, and you'll stay alive. It's not relatively easy anymore, though. With no one for company but each other, danger lurking only a few yards away from their homes, and half of their loved ones swept away in a mysterious event known only as 'The Vanishing', the morale of the populous is at an all time low. It's only getting worse for some, as their cities that are supposed to be providing for them are failing to do so. Survivors Wesly and Valentine aren't content with this, however, especially since Val's mother desperately needs life-saving medicine that the city just won't send. With no other options, the two journey outside the wall to study the monsters beyond, selling the information they find to the city in exchange for their support. While dangerous, they manage the task fine until one journey out they stumble across a disturbing, gruesome revelation that reveals not only more about the city, but the end of the world as a whole. As the duo begin to pull on the thread and tangle themselves slowly into its snare, they begin to realize there's a lot more to this apocalypse than they ever could have imagined, and that the horrific beasts they've been studying might be the least of their concerns...
