Neema is forced to attend a college hundreds of miles away from her hometown by her sister whom she stayed with when she moved out at her grandmother's house in an old small town. She bumps into her childhood buddy and crush, now English boy Xavier Thompson. Xavier moved to new castle with his family just after after the new South Africa was born when the Apartheid Era ended. He comes back to his birth country not only with his new looks, all thanks to puberty and his British accent, but with intentions to win his friend back. Neema slowly lets Xavier in, although with the fear that he brings memories of her late mother who used to be a servant at Xavier's house in the late 1990's with history threatening to ruin their newly rekindled friendship. Neema fights the feelings she has for Xavier, for she knows that things she loves the most do not last forever.
