When four, seemingly normal friends break into an abandoned building, their lives take a dangerous turn. The seemingly abandoned building isn't abandoned; it's a lab. After unwittingly releasing a test subject who happens to have a deep connection to the four of them, they flee in the illusion of safety.

Until the girl they freed shows up in their basement.

But with this girl comes danger. Stuck on the run, the five friends must navigate a world filled with ancient mythical creatures and deadly foes. But the five must band together to fend off the relentless pursuit of the lab and its monstrous creations while also trying to balance their newfound skills, and powers.

There's love. There's hate. There's friendship. There's betrayal. But they don't have the time to sit around and wait for one of the lab's creatures to claim their lives. They need all the help they can get, and they know just how to get it.

Will they muster the strength to outwit their adversaries and survive the dangers that lie up ahead? The clock is ticking, and their next move could determine their fate.

First day of college: blow up a lab, awaken ancient magic, try not to fall for a vampire. ●●● Red Hathaway thought the worst part of her first day of college would be getting lost. Not blowing up the biochemistry lab. But the explosion was no accident-and neither is Red's life. For nineteen years, she believed she was just an ordinary girl navigating the chaos of school, bullies, and late-night movie marathons. But everything changes the moment her skin cracks with magic and something otherworldly stirs inside her. Red isn't human. She never was. Whisked away under moonlight to Mystic Academy, a hidden university for the supernatural elite, Red is thrown into a world pulsing with ancient magic and dark secrets. Elves with sharp smiles, witches who craft storms, vampires who thirst for more than blood-and werewolves who smell fear. Here, the monsters don't hide under beds. They share your dorm. As Red struggles to control her powers, she finds herself drawn to a dangerously irresistible presence: a seductive vampire with secrets written in blood and a gaze that sees straight through her soul. He might be the key to unlocking her past-or the reason she doesn't survive her future. But something darker hunts her. Something hungry. And if Red doesn't uncover who-or what-she really is, this new world might be the death of her. Magic is calling. So is danger. And Red Hathaway is about to find out what happens when both answer at once.

Enver Williams is leading on a normal life but that is all ripped away from her when she is taken from her home town. When Enver comes to realize that there are others like her in more ways than one, she is determined to free herself and her newfound friends from the physiological torment of her closely supervised enclosure. ••• "Do I make you nervous, Enver?" Another idiotic question. "Wouldn't the man who kidnapped you and threatened to kill you make you nervous?" I snap at him. He only smiles an odd, crooked grin. I can make that disappear. "Wouldn't a murder make you nervous?" Now it's my turn to pull the strings. He looks at me with hurt in his eyes. "How many times do I have to say it?" He pauses, I guess hoping for some sort of mercy in my eyes, "I didn't kill her." "Liar!" I shout. "Why won't you believe me?!" "Would you believe yourself?" "It wasn't me who shot her," he sits on a stool, resting his elbows on his knees. "Then how do you know she was shot?" "I saw it. I saw him kill her," his voice was riddled with such pure vulnerability and pain it begged me to believe him. "Who?" I try to sound sympathetic, but it comes out as scared. Maybe, subconsciously, I am scared.
