Shane Walsh. That's my name. There are many things I wish I didn't do in the past. I'm not proud of me. Never was. Hell, my former best friend, Rick, stabbed me and left me for dead. Don't blame him though, I did point a gun to him. But that was because I had no choice. I knew he wouldn't have the guts to kill me unless I tempted him. I wanted to die. I mean, that's what I deserve. But he accused me of sleeping with his wife, Lori! I would never do anything like that to him! He's my - was my best friend. And now here I am. Stumbling through the forest, bleeding to death. I was scared.

But the one thing the two had in common was that everybody already had their minds made up about them, that they were gonna die, because kids like them can't survive in this world, they're not safe, no matter what they think they never will be. Yet the two even from a young age are willing to prove them wrong, where Katniss taught Carl how to be brave and to stand up for himself while Carl taught her that it's okay to show compassion and to be scared.
