Sonic's life has been nothing but perfect ever since he persuaded Knuckles that Eggman was tricking him. He met a bunch of friends, made a bunch of enemies, but those bunch of friends helped defeat the bunch of enemies. 
Meanwhile, Sonic's old family had presumed the hedgehog to be dead after Chuck died. After Jules announced that they were going on a vacation to an island, they figured out that the island they were having a vacation on was the home of their presumed dead brother.
They were the last people Sonic wanted to be nearby. Although meeting him again and being excited that he was alive, Sonic ignored their pleas to forgive them and told them to stay away from him.  He didn't mind the fact that his friends Knuckles, Tails, and Amy liked his siblings; he can't control them, after all.

Tails loved Halloween. He loved the overused skeleton decorations that lay around the grass of someone's front lawn. Some hanging by string, hovering above the gravestones that displayed names of random strangers who he had never heard of. He even loved the simple task of scooping out guts from a pumpkin, spoon quickly forgotten when hands desperately grasped at the organs. Oh, and how could he forget the iconic color duo which always gave him a headache after passing by. The annoyingly bright orange clashed horribly with the black, yet somehow it worked. Not to mention how little of a selection the "Costume Shop" had to offer. The same old outfits continued to cycle every year; however, still exciting the young fox who was desperate to find the right one just for him. Despite his ridiculously long list of aspects that bugged him about the famous holiday, Tails was obsessed. He had always been! However, this year... OR Tails is going through puberty and Sonic doesn't know what to do. Shadow actually helps, for once. Sonic and his rival share intimate moments. Rouge and Knuckles are idiots in love. They wanted to spend all summer without Sonic (who came with them) Though when they went too far Sonic felt so heart broken and was never in their sights. By the time they all feel bad and guilty especially Knuckles who actually does have a crush on him they slowly notice Sonic is not himself. He was feeling off and never coming out of the room he stayed in until most summer nights. He was even eating raw meat every day and night. Also strange things happened. They at first thought he was mad at all of them but Knuckles knows that there is something more sinister than that.
