It's the summer of 1986 and Mallory Bynes, better known as Lori, moves to Reseda to live a better life that doesn't result in her running away from things. She may seem normal, but the people in her life know nothing of her past and have never questioned it until Johnny Lawrence, the king of Reseda High. Her previous home is under threat from a mysterious force and Reseda proves to be no different, acting as a harbor to all of the things happening back in Hawkins. How will she find a way to protect the citizens of Reseda from what's coming?

This has spoilers for Stranger Things Seasons 3 and 4 (and technically S1 because it mentions the disappearance of Will Byers) because that is when this book takes place. This also alters the original Karate Kid movie around a bit, not making it set in 1984 (also has spoilers from that movie.) There are themes of horror, thriller, and romance in this book. Dear readers who have not seen Stranger Things may want to refrain from spoilers if they read this book, thank you.

Credit to the Duffer Brothers for all of the Stranger Things characters mentioned in this book and credit to the producers of The Karate Kid (1984) and Sony Pictures Entertainment. The only characters that are mine are Mallory Bynes and the Bynes family. The other characters belong to the respected franchises mentioned above.

Antique store owner Liz brings home a Victorian taxidermy hound from auction, unwittingly unleashing dark forces on her wife and son. ***** Nat Loman has finally married the love of her life, Liz, and is getting used to her role as stepmother to Liz's 5-year-old son, Liam. The Loman family runs a bustling antique business so they attend a sale where a striking, black taxidermied hound is up for auction. Liz picks it up for the business, but it ends up being stored in their home, where Nat notices strange things occurring. She quickly discovers the past residents had died violently. Then she hears from a friend about the myth of "the devil's dog", a hound that perches in the shadows, tearing families apart from the inside. Soon, people around the Lomans are dying, and Liz is changing, darkening. It's up to Nat to save the woman she loves from the darkness closing in, and to save Liam from danger no matter what she has to sacrifice.
