AU where magic has largely died out.
Previously unaware of his magical capabilities, and without the existence of Hogwarts, Tom Riddle attends a prestigious university in the muggle world. In his endeavor for power in any form, he comes across a group of students with the same longing for 'something more', unlocking a morbid and dark world of magic that he obsesses over to the brink of insanity. Tom may be a wizard, but nothing so pleasant is easily won.
Among his peers, Naoise Socran, a half-blood, natural necromancer. A victim in some rights, an opportunist with a penchant for trouble in others. She attends Lytch university with a want to uncover the secrets of the world through the schools unorthodox curriculum. Upon stepping into Tom Riddles ring of heathens, she finds she may have bit off more than she can chew.
The two weave around each other, using the other as a step-ladder despite their immediate and mutual disdain. That is, until much darker forces come into play.
