Carlisle Cullen was born in London, England, circa 1640. The son of an Anglican pastor, Carlisle is expected to follow in his father's footsteps and become a man of religion. However, his interests lie elsewhere - he's much more fascinated by the world of medicine than being involved with the church.
But when his father puts the responsibility of leading the crusades on him - Hellish street hunts for those accused of being vampires, witches, and werewolves - Carlisle's forced to step up and be the leader he didn't want to become.
