Jasper Whitlock was born in Houston, Texas, in the year 1844. The son of an abusive father and a mother who could do nothing to defend him, he dreamed of the day he'd be able to escape.
When the Civil War starts, Jasper lies about his age to join the Confederate Army and leaves his old life behind. With a sharp mind for military tactics and an extra ability to manipulate those around him, Jasper progresses quickly through the ranks. But everything changes when he encounters three lone women, and suddenly gets pulled from one war into a much more dangerous one.
