Years later, New Mercy faces another dark threat from Valerius's followers. Kael, on a diplomatic mission, is ambushed and captured. Alex finds Kael gravely injured, and Kael warns of a new dark force before succumbing to his injuries. Devastated by the loss of his son, Alex vows to protect New Mercy.

Alex discovers a cult of shadow mages plotting to resurrect Valerius's power. With the help of allies, he defeats the cult, securing the kingdom's future. Despite his grief, Alex leads New Mercy with the strength and wisdom inspired by Kael and Elara's memories.
