Saylor Maybank was a vicious girl, always snapping at the people that cared about her, always using foul language, and just being her father's daughter. With her mean manner, it was hard to remember that she was just seven years old, living with an abusive alcoholic her entire life. 

When things were really bad at home, her older brother, JJ, would take her to the chateau to hang out with his friends, which she never enjoyed. She hated John B, and the way that he only ever spoke about his father. She hated Kiara, who always spoke too much about saving the turtles, when there were people on earth (like her) that had to be saved. And, she hated Pope - who really thought he had a chance of getting out of the OBX. 

But, when her brother and his friend started coming across a path leading to the gold from the Royal Merchant, things began to get a whole lot more interesting, and Saylor spent more time with her brother than she ever had before.
