A wall divides the country in half. The prosperous Metropolis sits to the west and the Wastelands falls to despair in the east. For the medically enhanced, twenty-year-old girl called Blue, climbing over the wall is an easy task. She drops into the Wastelands to start a new life while attempting to forget the harsh parts of her past that bring her to the edge of losing control. After escaping the Metropolis, she searches for Frank Gibson, a man who can help her understand her new abilities. He offers insight about the Hospital-the demented facility that created her-but is unable to help her control the monster growing in her mind. It doesn't take long for him to see how quickly she loses control, especially when facing the worst parts of life in the Wastelands. Blue reaches a breaking point when she witnesses an auction for slaves and feels a sudden urge to free the people. She vows to use her uncontrollable abilities to end the slavery in hopes that doing right by them will diminish the turmoil constantly brewing behind her eyes. While Blue is busy becoming a legend in the Wastelands, her family slowly suffers in the Metropolis. They live under President Whiley's harsh ruling and nearly lose everything. Their hope for a brighter future fades as months without their daughter speed by in a blur and the struggle becomes harder to handle. They are forced to give up nearly everything in order to stay together and find it easy to blame their missing daughter for their hardships. Little do they know of the secrets behind her disappearance and what she had done for them. This is the first book in a series.
