Anxiety, denial, losing a friend, losing a job. Atom might never leave his apartment again. He may never see his friends again, and why? A very good friend of his was the victim of a fatal hate crime. Now, he fears he may be next and the only way to stay safe is to stay home. His friends won't let him slip through the cracks, though, and their attempts to carve him out of his hiding spot lead him to Reuther, an ice-cream truck driver longing for just one real friend who doesn't crash his car or get him fired. Atom is fine to do without this new connection, but Reuther's curiosity about the boy from the 5th floor who he only talks to through paper notes and spare change becomes an obstacle that Atom can't run away from.
