The cross he was wearing wasn't the only one in his possession. His room's walls were all covered with crosses, odd masks from Indian myths, parts of animals' bodies like a rabbit's foot, and yellow papers of magical spells written with blood. The windows were covered with those spells too along with the salt piles that lined them. The vents, manholes, chimneys, and whatever opening connecting this house to the world outside had those items for protection.
Protection from the entities that weren't supposed to be in this world anymore but somehow, managed to stay among the living. Just like her. The virgin ghost that started following him a month ago and didn't give up on him.
