There was once a story of a man who could take on whole armies and survive. A man thought to be more machine than human, something that could rival the Sith. That story was wrong, this man could take on empires and the Sith, they feared him. His name echoes in the shadows, an unspoken hero of freedom and democracy; 117.
This story is a rewritten version of the original Project Ares (by me) and features extra content and better/more concise chapters. Still, I do not take credit for the characters, only the story.

Confronting Fear
"When I offer you my hand again, you'll take it." What if Kylo Ren had been right? What if Rey had taken Kylo Ren's hand when he offered it the second time, deciding her best chance at defeating Palpatine and saving the galaxy was with him? But can the two of them overcome their differences and mistrust of each other to accomplish that task or will pride win out? And then there is a certain group of meddling Force Ghosts determined to test them to their fullest. Meanwhile, Finn has a destiny of his own to fulfill chasing visions of his past across the galaxy. Poe buries himself in work as he tries to forget his failures and forge ahead. Leia attempts to cement her legacy and ensure the future of the galaxy. This fanfic explores a different ending to TROS starting at about the halfway point, when Kylo reveals the truth about Rey in the hangar. It will focus mainly on their story but there will be significant plot arcs that focus on Finn, Poe, Leia, and others. There will be a few augmentations to the earlier story, but I have tried to stay true to the plot up until this point, except for the 16 hr deadline Palpatine gave them. His threat was open ended in my version. Clone Order 66 was the time when all Jedi died. All the Knights, padawans, and children of the force, dead. All but one, me. The clones killed them all. Every clone turned. All except three, Gregor, Rex, and Wolffe. My best friend was among the ones who turned. His name was Jack. After he shot down my master, I fled. I left with the three clones still on my side. I never wanted to see Jack again. I'm an untrained Jedi, without a master, running from the Sith that want me dead. How did this happen? My parents disappeared and my sister died in an explosion caused by the republic forces, almost 10 years ago! I thought I'd never see any of them again, I was wrong. During an un-planned rescue, I learned of a message from an old Jedi master. I regret my instant reaction to the instructions I was given. I've been told poems that don't make any sense by ghosts. Don't call me insane, I know I am. One of them drills into me and I can't get it out. The ghost had told me, they loved droids so much, they became one. I don't know who they are? Me? Let's hope not. Captain Rex's Journey

This story began as a Captain Rex fan fiction but I have evolved it into something more. Watch as Captain Rex and Jedi padawn Paul Hornen face off against the Empire and First Order, while also meeting legacy characters and protecting those they care about. The year is 5 BBY, roughly the time of the Empire's most powerful years. Captain Rex's mission of rescuing Cody will soon begin, and in doing so he wishes to form a rebellion to bring back the Republic. Hear the events that brought Rex back in action to rescue Cody and Anakin once and for all.
