Kaia has always been a daddy's girl.
What? With the wealthy uncle/foster dad, a literal god as a biological father and a cool mortal stepdad, all of whom adore and shower her with affection and pampering, how couldn't she be one?
But romance has never been her strong suit. She's always suffered bad luck in her romantic endeavors, so much so that it's saddening.
Her first crush, Luke, betrayed her and died.
The brief romance with Calypso disintegrated to dust
The short situationship with Rachel ended before it could even start.
Even the years spent pining after the "man of her dreams", Anthony Chase, ended in disappointment.
She's gotten used to disappointing relationships, but she's a hopeless romantic at heart. Seeing her mom and siblings in happy relationships encourages her to find her own happy ending, despite the fate of heartbreak littering her path. She's willing to fight for it. For love, she's willing.
