"We're dropping Jake at Zade's then we're hanging out." I nod, "Just us two?" I ask after, wondering. "Yeah, you don't wanna?" He says, a sad expression on his face.
"Yeah, I want to. It's just.. nevermind." "No, tell me, princess" he urges me. "You never wanted to hang out with me, alone, before. Aren't you supposed to hate me" He stops, turns around to face me, both his hands cupping my face, "I could never hate you, Katrina. Never. Understand me?" I nod and he says, "Use your words, baby."

Katrina had always been in love with her brother's best friend. She acted as if she hated him, although her brother did everything he could to get them together. This summer, she decided, would be different.
