Nina "Halfway" Highway is the daughter of Jonno Highway and the sister of Stuart Highway. Nina manages to get a job working behind the bar at the Vic.

During Nina and Callum's relationship, Nina avoids having sex with him multiple times, leaving Callum confused, although he believes Nina is a virgin and is just nervous. Nina is called up to the army again, and her doctor, Dr. Cosslett, deems her fit to return. Upset by the result of the assessment, Nina tries to harm herself, which is witnessed by Ben Mitchell.

Ben accuses Nina of being attracted to bad boys, but Nina denies it. Ben also admits he is attracted to Nina, and they later end up kissing and having sex.

Not wanting to begin their life together with a secret hanging over them, Nina confessed to Callum that she cheated on him. Hunter Owen holds the pub hostage, shooting Ben in the process.

At the hospital, Ben awakens, and Ben asks Nina on a date, which Nina accepts. Nina breaks down in front of Ben, and Nina tries to kiss Ben, but Ben pushes Nina off, saying she only kisses him when she's drunk. Nina interprets this as full rejection, but Ben reassures Nina that they'll work through it when Nina's sober.

Under the advice of Lola, Nina refuses to give up on her and Ben. Ben tells Nina that if she can kiss him in front of everyone, completely sober, he'll go out with her again.

Nina then kisses Ben outside the Vic, and Ben agrees to go on a date with her again, with Nina joking that she doesn't want another date after that kiss.
