Aegon Targaryen was driven mad by septons and septas who told him that he could ascend the Iron Throne when he knew he would never. He was driven mad by his eldest brother's naming as King Jaehaerys I Targaryen's heir, and the violent madness of his younger brother, Daemon.

Aegon's wife wasn't loved by his family, an understatement, but true. After the Prince drunk himself to death, the Lady was given two options, death for her and her unborn child, or relinquishing any claim her child might have to the Iron Throne. The child, who all maesters in the Red Keep thought to be a boy, turned out to be twins, Enariya and Rayneia. Enariya lived, but with the curse of her father's madness and ingrained into her brain, the sight of her twin sister, a bundle of flames, burnt alive in front of her wine flavoured eyes.
