People today think they really know the Red Riding Hood story. But they really don't.
This is an unpublished short story-- well, unpublished in book form; it has been posted online on my blog-- a retelling of the Red Riding Hood story, influenced by the work of Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Louise Cooper, and a certain poem by Roald Dahl.

The Crimson Cape
A Retelling of Charles Perrault's Little Red Cap The Crimson Cape retells the classic story of Charles Perrault's fairytale Little Red Cap, better known as Little Red Riding Hood. For many years, the people living in the Infinite Forest have lived in fear of the wolves that inhabit those woods. The wolves used to periodically attack humans and some of the victims lost their lives. In addition to weaponry to defend themselves, the people would don enchanted clothing that would protect them from the wolves. Phoenix is a young girl who grew up without a mother, who was killed by wolves when Phoenix was only a toddler. She was given an enchanted crimson cape to wear whenever she left. the house. One year, during a very frightening encounter with a wolf, her cape is ripped and the magic leaves the garment forever. In order to re-enchant the cape, Phoenix must provide a sample of the blood of the thing she fears the most. In this case, Phoenix's greatest fear was a specific wolf that is believed to be the biggest of them all. The very essence of the term Big Bad Wolf. On her quest, Phoenix learns to face her fears. We all heard the story about Little Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf. It's a fairytale our parents told us amongst other fairytales. What happened if the story wasn't like the one in the fairytales, but funnier? Liliana Red is the type of person to do her own thing. She's a single, independent woman who works for Dimitri Wolf as his secretary. Dimitri Wolf is the type of man who prefers work over fun. He doesn't have time for frivolous matters such as dating or love. Dimitri receives an invitation to his ex's wedding. Not wanting to return single, he enlists Liliana to help him. Dimitri leaves on one crucial detail out, and that's his family, who are a little crazy. While trying to survive his family and deal with his ex getting married, Dimitri will see Liliana in a different light. Will the big bad Wolf be able to resist Red, or will he find out love isn't a bad thing? Expect humor of epic proportions. This isn't your typical fairytale, and Grandma isn't baking cookies, or is she?Complete

As we all know how the famous classic fairy-tale goes of Little Red Riding Hood, this tale is slightly different. The family of Red Riding Hood play a small role and not much of them is heard of again. Especially the poor grandmother. But in this story not all is what they seem as for this fairy-tale there is so much more. One day her mother sends her to visit her sick grandmother where a big wolf stops in her path to warn her of the danger she is about to face. Can Red trust the wolf? It's only her grandmother how can she be in any danger? What is she meant to face after talking to a stranger?
