"I'm so sorry," he whispers over and over, "couldn't you just be by my side, it wouldn't have happened, love"
His words were a torrent of longing, he didn't seem pleading for forgiveness and a chance to make things right. But the memory of his blank eyes, the cold steel of the blade, the excruciating pain that had ripped through my throat - it all came rushing back.
"Why?" I rasped, my voice weak and croaky.
I felt his grip tightening on me. "Because you looked like you forgot who you are destined to be, love, you belong to me I didn't mean to hurt you. I would never." he trailed off.
My gaze fell to his hands, the ones that had held the blade, the ones that were now desperately holding onto me.
I didn't know what to believe. He had tried to kill me and that man, yet he was now begging for forgiveness, It felt like a cruel joke, a twisted reality where love and violence coexisted.
"You have to understand, that you are mine, you belong to me, and to no one else." I stared at him, seeing the raw desperation in his voice. And for a moment, a flicker of hope ignited within me. Could this be real? Could this man, who had tried to end my life, truly be sorry?
He pulled me close, his arms holding me tight, his body shaking with the force of his emotions. "I love you," he whispered again, his words a plea, a promise.
"Say it back chéri" he said as i could see his eyes getting darker.
"I-i lov-e yo-u to-o" My throat still felt like sandpaper, my body ached, but the fear that had gripped me was starting to recede. This was a chance, a gamble. A chance to see if his love could truly atone for his actions. A chance to see if this shattered love could be rebuilt, piece by piece, from the ashes of betrayal.
"That's like my love" he said as he caressed my cheeks, I can not do anything I closed my eyes, and in the silence of the room, I held onto that hope, that sliver of a chance that maybe, just maybe, love could heal even the deepest wounds.
