Carla Rosenblood, a.k.a. Nightclaw, is both a werewolf anti-heroine and founding member of the world-renowned Paragons who struggles to adapt to the sudden changes in her life following the deaths of her younger brother Murray and father Dave, not helped by her mother Martha's death from cancer when she was three. Despite her trauma, she has been adopted by a friend of the family: Countess Valeria, the loyal caretaker of Darkveil Manor, an estate belonging to Carla's late grandfather Alfred. Additionally, the manor's resident scientist Esther also looks after her, and she has her fellow werewolves from the Order of Blood and her teammates from the Paragons to support her, too. Lastly, she has a love-hate relationship with the C.L.A.W.-a movement of magical shamans dedicated to preserving animal rights-and connections to the Vermillion Enclave and its kingdom of vampires. 

However, the thought of Carla technically being immortal due to her status as a werewolf soon begins to weigh heavily on her, as it means she will never get to die and eventually reunite with Martha, Alfred, Murray, or Dave. After a particularly traumatic mission which reminds her of this fact, she goes on a reluctant journey to find a fabled wellspring that can supposedly "cure" her of her immortality, joined by Jet, Boris II, and Percy, three of her fellow werewolves from the Order of Blood. However, their trek is soon waylaid by the introduction of a mysterious wisp called Shade and the menace of the Mega Mechs, and to further complicate matters, a dangerous force of darkness known only as Omen is surfacing, with its own plans for Earth.....
