On Ventus's 18th birthday, the moment arrives for him to assume leadership from his father, the current Ruler Master Eraqus, and oversee their family and their realm. Yet, his brother, Vanitas, a formidable wielder of dark magic, challenges his claim. Ventus, determined to uphold his birthright, refuses to relent, prompting Vanitas to cast a curse upon him. Now, Ventus is condemned to an existence of solitary anguish, enduring a slow deterioration from a ghastly ailment.
