The year is 1942. Europe has been at war for the past three years; yet after the attack on Pearl Harbor, America has now joined the conflict. A young female Captain finds herself given her own platoon, M- Platoon. She, just like all those she is put in command of, are mutants; the powers that be, hoping that she can control the men and perhaps turn them into something that might be useful, thought it will not be easy. Her superiors believe that she and the others are expendable, and even one of the men she is sent to command, a certain Victor Creed, is determined to make life as difficult as possible. But with the support of a Sargen James Howlett, and the other men of the Platoon she might just prove everyone wrong about mutants and get her Platoon through the war.

My eyes dropped instinctively to my feet, the sudden rush of fear made me mute. I nodded quickly, not wanting to piss him off more. My heart pounded, reminding me how powerless I felt. ----- It has been 2 years since the the dead spread their shadow across the planet. Danger lurks around every corner in a world overrun by the dead. Humanity clings to survival, confined to crumbling hideouts while supplies are dwindling. The streets run red with blood, and fear is pushing people to their breaking point - forcing them to commit unspeakable acts in the name of survival. Maeve Logan is a 21 year old woman who is resourceful, resilient, and hardened by the horrors she's faced in this world. Maeve has learned to adapt quickly, scavenging for supplies and mastering the art of silence to avoid detection by both the dead and the living. But one slip up caused chaos. Harry Styles is a 24 year old man with a relentless drive to protect the ones he loves, no matter the cost. His moral compass had eroded under the pressure of a world gone mad, leaving him to cross any line - whether it's killing threats without hesitation or taking hostages to secure resources for his group. Sometimes the living are far more dangerous than the dead... A broken world brought them together. She had a shattered soul, and him, a hardened heart. There was much more to face before they saw a future. Many scars, tears and losses to endure before they saw the light.

By the year 2015 humans have developed practical means of interstellar travel, but as they expand further out into the Milky Way, they disturb a previously unknown race of alien beings. Very shortly after the USAs United National Space Command [UNSC] discovers their exsitence, the aliens, known as Ecarians, send several scouting parties out to find the humans planet. One of the scouting parties lands outside of Des Plaines, Illinois which has a heavy population of supernaturals. One of them, a Sergeant from the local SWAT team by the name of Zuton Cruton, befriends one of the aliens, Zorra. She convinces the leader of their squad, Will, who is also the Deputy of the aliens, to ask to call off the attack. He aggrees, but his request is harshly denied and he and several other aliens defect to the humans side just in time for the invasion by the Ecarian Space Navy [ESN] of Earth... Nobody said being part of a military branch, the Survey Corps, which has the highest kill-rate among all those you could have chosen, would be the same that'd make your past resurface unbidden. Having run from your homeland into the dangerous embrace of armed forces was your only way to escape what previously seemed inescapable - being seen as nothing but a plaything for your family. Rape, loss of loved ones, alcoholics in the family beating you almost daily. Everything you swore to abandon you came back to you in the form of dreams. Defending humanity from its biggest threat, gigantic humanoid creatures which are called 'Titans' seemed like your only way out. Dying here wouldn't be here at the hands of those you had to call kin, at least. Training by oneself alone won't do the trick. So, the Commander assigned you his best soldier as your mentor. A grumpy, blunt, vulgar and aloof bastard with an affinity for cleaning and tea was the man who would watch over your every step in order to become one of humanity's most valuable soldiers. Yet, day by day, restless nights keep you awake. Trauma keeps you away from food you once could eat without a problem. And someone who shouldn't make it 𝘢𝘯𝘺 of his business. The 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 person who should 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦, began to visit you regularly at night, when sleep evaded you. Slowly, a professional boundary merged with unforeseen affection you've never been shown before. A romantic connection begins within barracks. Will you be able to defeat the ghosts of your past within a world that is bound by loss and death?

As much as I would like to chalk it all up to being a sign of the times (the very backwards 1940s), I understand now how I should have handled this particular time period with more tact and discretion. Especially with how I recklessly portrayed the horrific racial climate of the 1940s American South.
