Years of technological advancement at the expenditure of natural resources has had left the world on the brink of collapse. In order to survive, scientists figured out how to borrow their missing resources of its own alternate realities. It's an arrangement that no one questions, and those who do, are dealt with accordingly.

Subject Seven doesn't know a time before waking up in the Origin Core. The only soldier from the Alpha series, she was designed to be able to adapt to her environment, whether on Origin, and outside of it. But when memories from a life she couldn't have lived continue to plague her dreams, Seven must decide if she believes in what she's been told, or if challenging the truth is worth the risk of being deactivated.
