Have you ever had a point in your life in which all is perilous, as if something cannot be stopped, fixed; as if your destiny is too soon called upon? This is the case with "Here in Two Hundred Years?", a poem whose basis comprises the American chestnut. The 'chestnut', as shortened in the actual piece, is a tree that over numerous decades declined due to Dutch Elm Disease, a disease that very few trees could survive.
The narrator, or otherwise main character (yet unnamed), is of a young age, and ponders whether or not the chestnut will survive till they too, pass. "Here in Two Hundred Years?" chronicles the many, various thoughts of the character, and presents with you a question: will you ever too meet the seldom humble, dignified human? (This poem focuses chiefly on human error and negligence, and their effects on what we can only cherish once - nature.)
***Stanzas (parts) 11 & 12 will be published next week on June 8 (Saturday), 12:15 C.D.T.
*Note: This poem is currently in the process of being heavily edited and revised. A finalized version of this poem (possibly including an extra stanza) may be available in the coming months (as of May 2024). In the meantime, please do enjoy! - prairiethistle

For me every soul has a simple story, one that unfolds directly.
But when it comes to poems, they transcend the ordinary. They are profound, open to interpretation, deciphered through the unique lens of your own perception.
