The wind howled through the dense forest surrounding Ravenswood, carrying with it an unsettling whisper that seemed to emanate from the very earth itself. In the dead of night, a lone figure hurried along the narrow path, glancing nervously over his shoulder. His breath came in ragged gasps, the terror in his eyes palpable.
Richard Henderson had lived in Ravenswood all his life, but never had he felt such an overpowering sense of dread. The whispers had started a few nights ago, faint and distant, like the murmurs of lost souls. Tonight, they were louder, almost deafening, and they seemed to be calling his name.
As he reached the edge of the forest, Richard paused, trying to steady his trembling hands. He fumbled for the flashlight in his pocket, its weak beam cutting through the oppressive darkness. He could see the faint outline of his house in the distance, a beacon of safety he desperately needed to reach.
But before he could take another step, the whispers intensified, wrapping around him like invisible tendrils. Richard's heart pounded in his chest as the temperature plummeted, his breath forming misty clouds in the frigid air. Shadows danced at the periphery of his vision, and he knew he was no longer alone.
The whispers coalesced into a single, chilling voice. "Richard... join us..."
With a strangled cry, Richard turned and ran, the flashlight slipping from his grasp. His feet pounded the earth as he raced through the forest, branches tearing at his clothes and skin. The whispers followed, growing louder, more insistent.
Suddenly, the ground beneath him gave way, and Richard tumbled into a hidden ravine. Pain shot through his leg as he landed hard, his vision swimming. He tried to crawl, but his body refused to obey, paralyzed by fear and injury.
As the darkness closed in around him, Richard could still hear the whispers, now right beside his ear. The last thing he saw was a pair of glowing eyes emerging from the shadows before everything went black.
