I stare at him in disbelief as he stands on the edge of the bridge. My breathing is so shallow that my lungs scream for air. Hyunjin laughs and throws his head back. Anger pulses through my body; how could he laugh in a situation like this?
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I say through clenched teeth.
"Jisung, the world has gone to shit," Hyunjin replies, his laugh instantly fading as a serious look sets into his eyes. "Nothing matters anymore. I don't matter. You don't matter."
Before I could think, my legs were jolted forward and I was sprinting towards Hyunjin. I grab him by the front of his shirt and slam his body into the ground. I was on top of him, my hands knotted in his shirt. I breathe heavily over him, spit gathering at the edge of my mouth. Hyunjin's face went from shocked to smirking in only a few moments. I pull my arm back, preparing to punch him only to be met with his hand on my chest.
"Breathe, Jisung," he whispers, hand over my racing heart. "Breathe."
The world stopped in this moment. I feel tears well up in my eyes at his words. My hands are still knotted in his shirt but not from anger, from the need to be close to him. To feel his presence close to me. The tears now stream down my face and they showed no sign of stopping.
"You're alive, Jisung. I can feel your heart beating, your lungs breathing," I open my eyes to see his wide smile. "You're alive and safe. I promise."
The world has gone cold. Food is scarce. Homes have been destroyed and everyone fights to simply survive. People murder just to murder and some murder to survive. Jisung, Chan, Felix, and Seungmin travel together to find a sanctuary for people like them, people who have lost everything. They meet another group of boys along the way. These boys could be the ones to get them to safety or they could be the cause of their downfall.
