Boom! The explosion rings loud and shakes our house. Gunshots follow the explosion. This chorus of sounds has been our constant companion since a secret resistance decided to fight against the dictatorship that overtook America. Usually the fighting is far away, but it has been creeping closer every single day until it takes over completely. I'm thrown into the danger as I try to protect my younger brother and sister. I'm forced to do things I never would have imagined and go beyond myself. It would've all been too much if not for the boy that appeared in my life unexpectedly.

I was drowning. I knew that. I also knew that the hands around my throat, pushing me deeper into the river water was the cause. What I didn't know was who was drowning me and why. It hurt thinking. It hurt to do anything right now. But I still screamed under the cold water and pushed the hands away as hard as I could. It didn't have much effect. I fought and fought, but I was getting weaker, and colder. The pain was overbearing. I couldn't breathe. It was the worst pain imaginable; and as the hands that were around my neck were forcibly ripped off by some unknown force, I slipped deeper into the depths of the river. My hair was straight above me along with my arms. My eyes were open and the water burned. A darkness started to pull me under, taking the pain away. I felt a small pressure around my waist, before the darkness completely consumed me. The last thing I remember is thinking, save me.Complete

She....I....... I was running through the thick branches, pushing the leaves out of my way with all my might. I had to get away. The wet, brown, ground made it easier for me to slip and let her red, chilling hands slip around my innocent, scarred body, not knowing where she would take me next. I was almost out of breath, but I had to keep running if I wanted to make it out of this forest alive. My red dress was getting torn to shreds, and my hands and feet had mud all over them. My long, bushy brown hair was getting hooked on every possible branch, making me push my hair in the back of my dress, just like I used to when I was forced to cook everyday for my loathsome 'parents'. Returning back to the real world, I had to stop otherwise I would black out. I took a few seconds to catch my breath silently, and to look around to see if she was there behind me. I was looking up at the tall, old tree when I heard a twig snap behind me. Just like in the horror films. I turned and ran in the same direction, not daring to look back and see her wretched face fixed on my body. I sprinted and sprinted, but slowed down when I saw I was heading to nowhere but a ragged cliff. The unknown would me known if I continued to run and jump. I stopped two metres away from the cliff and looked down to see a valley so far down. If I jump..... I die. If I let her take me..... the unfair horribleness awaits me. I had no choice. I could have killed you!" He says and starts to walk towards me. I take a big breath and step back away from him, "s-stop! Axel," I stutter still panting. It's then he notices the blood on my hands and shirt. "Is that blood?" He asks staring at my shirt and I take another step back. "Stop, stay b-back," I try to say confidently but I can't even breath right. Realizing he won't listen I start to turn around planning to make a break for it. "Don't run from me Blaze it won't go well," he growls reading my thoughts causing me to freeze in my spot. "Do not ever think you can get away from me."Complete

“Run Maeve! Run!!” I could hear Phoenix’s voice yell to me in pain as I dashed through the woods while branches smacked me. I had to run faster, I had to escape, whatever that creature was it wanted me. I felt my feet slow down and my breathing sped up and I felt a burning sensation in my chest. I couldn’t stop; I couldn’t slow down….RUN! I forced my feet to move faster as I heard wings flapping just a few feet behind me. I didn’t dare look back though; looking back might be my death at this point. ‘Stop running’… I heard a voice in my head say I tried to ignore it, it wasn’t me who was saying it, it was something else. ‘You have no chance….STOP!’ It screamed inside my head and I could already see myself slowing down and obeying to it. I knew I was going to cave in. My feat slowed down into a small jog until I finally stopped and started to catch my breath knowing I had done the wrong thing but I couldn’t fight it, whatever it was I felt it controlling me like nothing before. ‘Good girl’ I heard it say and almost on cue I felt big strong arms curl around my waist and I felt myself being lifted up into the air with extreme force and I let out a small scream. “Maeve, no!” I heard Phoenix’s voice yell to me from a great distance as I was being lifted into the air by something. As much as I hated it I had to look, I had to see what’s going on. I looked over not at the man’s face but what really caught my eye was the giant wings on either side of me which was causing me to fly. “Phoenix!” I yelled automatically.
