Boom! The explosion rings loud and shakes our house. Gunshots follow the explosion. This chorus of sounds has been our constant companion since a secret resistance decided to fight against the dictatorship that overtook America. I was drowning. I knew that. I also knew that the hands around my throat, pushing me deeper into the river water was the cause. What I didn't know was who was drowning me and why. It hurt thinking. It hurt to do anything right now. But I still screamed under the cold water and pushed the hands away as hard as I could. It didn't have much effect. I fought and fought, but I was getting weaker, and colder. The pain was overbearing. I couldn't breathe. It was the worst pain imaginable; and as the hands that were around my neck were forcibly ripped off by some unknown force, I slipped deeper into the depths of the river. My hair was straight above me along with my arms. My eyes were open and the water burned. A darkness started to pull me under, taking the pain away. I felt a small pressure around my waist, before the darkness completely consumed me. The last thing I remember is thinking, save me.

"Shayly! are you okay!" someone said, but I was in so much pain, i could'nt figure out who it was, until leanalee bent down in front of me, stay calm! iIl find someone," right after she said that, she looked up and yelled,"Kanda! help! she's in alot of pain," leanalee noticed the blood, and looked at me with concen I saw black boot's appere in my vision, as I was holding my head, looking at the floor. I saw hand's reaching for me, and remembred,dark hand's reaching for me, coming to kill me! i tryed to escape! but I was slapped and slamed into the wall!i screamed in pain! "no! leave me alone! please! i did'nt do anything!"

“Run Maeve! Run!!” I could hear Phoenix’s voice yell to me in pain as I dashed through the woods while branches smacked me. I had to run faster, I had to escape, whatever that creature was it wanted me. I felt my feet slow down and my breathing sped up and I felt a burning sensation in my chest. I couldn’t stop; I couldn’t slow down….RUN! I forced my feet to move faster as I heard wings flapping just a few feet behind me. I didn’t dare look back though; looking back might be my death at this point. ‘Stop running’… I heard a voice in my head say I tried to ignore it, it wasn’t me who was saying it, it was something else. ‘You have no chance….STOP!’ It screamed inside my head and I could already see myself slowing down and obeying to it. I knew I was going to cave in. My feat slowed down into a small jog until I finally stopped and started to catch my breath knowing I had done the wrong thing but I couldn’t fight it, whatever it was I felt it controlling me like nothing before. ‘Good girl’ I heard it say and almost on cue I felt big strong arms curl around my waist and I felt myself being lifted up into the air with extreme force and I let out a small scream. “Maeve, no!” I heard Phoenix’s voice yell to me from a great distance as I was being lifted into the air by something. As much as I hated it I had to look, I had to see what’s going on. I looked over not at the man’s face but what really caught my eye was the giant wings on either side of me which was causing me to fly. “Phoenix!” I yelled automatically. I heard the man with his arms around me chuckle as we descended farther into the sky, away from my only hope, my mate, Phoenix.
