In order to do this, he must leave his home in Ishval to study alchemy and become a state alchemist. Edward soon accomplishes his goal and is given the name "Fullmetal".
Four years later, Edward Elric is loyally working in Amestris as a state alchemist, and he finds out something that will change his life forever.
