El gris del cielo reflejado en rostros tensos y en calles aún marcadas por la guerra marcó el décimo aniversario de la Victoria del Capitolio sobre los distritos. Diez años de opresión que aún resonaban en las heridas abiertas de la sociedad.

Ese año, en el insidioso juego de los Juegos del Hambre, los 12 distritos se enfrentaron a una crueldad amplificada. Ya no se sorteaban dos tributos al azar, sino un torneo intrincado y despiadado con competencias femeninas y masculinas separadas en arenas.

En esta edición especial para Capitol City, cada distrito tuvo que enviar no uno, sino dos homenajes de ambos sexos, elevando el total a 48 homenajes. Había más en juego y el aire estaba tenso mientras los niños y niñas del Distrito 12 enfrentaban un destino aún más incierto en este juego orquestado por la crueldad del Capitolio.
