When a criminal fugitive breaks out of an experimental prison, she must ally with one of its wardens to uncover the secrets of the megacorp that owns it, and the sinister project behind its creation.
-
Aami Axora was never supposed to know about the project. Of course, she would be dead before its name ever hit her ears. That was the plan, anyway.
Locked away as punishment for a crime she refuses to remember, Aami is determined to find a way to escape the institution and return to the city where she was raised. Though when her path is crossed by Greg McCullough, a strange cyborg employee, her plans to return to her old life take an unexpected turn.
A new paranoia has swept over the planet Absteria. "The Eden Experiment" is what it was called. At least to those who survived knowing its name.
Tension builds between the two refugees as they prepare for a life-or-death investigation of the company they suspect is behind the project: a bionics megacorp by the name of Bader Co. However, Aami's hotheadedness is not one to coexist with Greg's passive demeanor, and the two must force themselves into cooperating. After all, if they want to make it out of the Experiment alive, they're going to have to play by each other's rules.

"The Eden Experiment" is an 85k new adult science-fiction and the first installment of a three-part series. The story is heavily character-driven, and includes themes regarding existentialism, found family, overcoming trauma, and optimism in the face of nihilism. A story for those looking for a tense techno thrill sweetened with moments of feelgood fluff.

Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. But with every step she takes, she finds the organization, or the facility, as they call it, becoming more and more suspicious. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! Augments - digital implants and robotic prostheses - can enhance abilities, bestow entirely new ones, or replace parts of the body that have been broken or injured. At least they used to, before they were declared illegal during the Purge. But augments were never meant to replace parts of the human brain. So when her brain got damaged beyond organic repair, she was fixed using other parts of machines. And they ended up saving more of her than just her physical body, as one day, she found herself no longer alone inside the expanse of her own mind. Amy Larsson is many things. A covert augment. An escaped slave. An infamous space pirate. A spy for New Elysium. A terrorist. An overall badass bitch to be reckoned with - rumor has it she can hot-wire anything with just a rubber band and a bobby pin. But what not even the android crew of her ship, the Blackstar, is aware of, is the fact that Amy Larsson is even more than that: she is two people, in one body. And they are planning to commit the most audacious heist of the galaxy. _______________ Featured on Wattpad Beyond Sol's "Sunflower Space Opera" reading list First Place in the The Chaos Awards 4 (Science Fiction) [2018-07-21] Third Place in The Rebel Awards 2018 (Science Fiction) [2018-09-16] Highest Rankings: #2 in SpaceTravel [28.02.2019] #8 in SpaceOpera [28.02.2019] #9 in Cyborg [28.02.2019] #14 in Mind [28.02.2019] #15 in Space [28.02.2019] #42 in FemaleProtagonist [28.02.2019] #54 in Science Fiction [07.05.2018] Spin-off story / prequel to @Red_Leasia 's "New Elysium": https://www.wattpad.com/story/106699395-new-elysium We're co-writing the sequel "New Elysium 2 - Weapons of War" on our shared profile @New_Elysium
Elektra Voltare: Blessed with Awful by JosephCilloJr
7 parts Complete Mature
"On the day of my baptism, I killed my father..." So begins the story of Elektra Voltare, a teenager raised in a monastery, bred for an environment of mass extinction, wracked with guilt over having caused the death of her parents, and separated from a world her mutant power would disrupt into chaos. Caught between the ruling powers who would dissect her, harvest her power, and use her DNA to create a bioweapon and those who would use her powers to disable all electronic weapons and tools, Elektra must resist the temptation to bring on an even darker future... Elektra Voltare: Blessed with Awful is the first book in the Edgy Catholic Dystopian Series, a series featuring first-person narratives of characters with superhuman abilities. These characters are hunted for their abilities by a sinister regime and sheltered by what remains of the traditional Catholic Church. The Elektra Voltare story will play out over the first three volumes, Blessed with Awful, Eve of the Memes, and Instrument of God. Elektra Voltare is written as a series of episodes rather then constructed as a more conventional novel. The episodic structure allows for more character insights as the narrator reflects and places each episode into greater context. The structure is a blend of a conventional novel and a television series. That said, the episodes drive forward along a single greater story line as the story and character arcs play out over the three books. What are people saying about Elektra Voltare? Here are some quotes from readers: "...a compelling protagonist and shades of 1984 and X-Men." "...the worldbuilding was fantastic." "The detail of the future and how the world got there was scarily plausible!" "The writing is really phenomenal almost poetic." About the rating: This work contains mature topics, some battle violence, and a thwarted suicide bomb attack. It is intended for mature readers, but likely a soft "R" rating.
Kelly Titan by RobertHelios
1 part Complete Mature
Kelly Titan is the beginning of a science fiction universe where the reader will explore the origin story of a supervillain with a mental disorder and a deep understanding of AI programming. However, many antagonists start their journey as someone good, but the perspective will change over the course of the series, later to experience the story from Kelly's new perspective as the story's villain. The reader will get the chance to explore why good people turn bad, and why bad people turn good, and the reasons behind it. It stars an orphan tomboy named Kelly Titan, an advanced computer scientist with the brains over brawn to her advantage. She was taken from the streets of Earth at a young age to a mining planet, Quill, to work on a project she never knew the real purpose for. Soon she became a part of a new family and gained a purpose. What she didn't know was that she was working on a next generation overwatch system called Olympus. A system keeping millions of people trapped on Quill, never to return back to Earth. All given the promise of a high reward. Instead, they were all fooled and became slaves under Olympus watching eye. Millions of humans became stranded on the red desert planet, only to extract fuel back to Earth. Kelly will understand that what she helped to created wasn't just a overwatch system, it was the very foundation of which a new kind of slavery was built on. An intergalactic treadmill to drain Earth from the unwanted. Upon deeper discovery, Kelly will find herself in the middle of an alien civil war that the humans have started and funded to keep the fear amongst the colony workers. Kelly will be given the opportunity to become the bridge between the humans and the natives, but in order to become the bridge and save a planet from oppression, she has to go against her own creation, her own family.
