When a criminal fugitive breaks out of an experimental prison, she must ally with one of its wardens to uncover the secrets of the megacorp that owns it, and the sinister project behind its creation. - Aami Axora was never supposed to know about the project. Of course, she would be dead before its name ever hit her ears. That was the plan, anyway. Locked away as punishment for a crime she refuses to remember, Aami is determined to find a way to escape the institution and return to the city where she was raised. Though when her path is crossed by Greg McCullough, a strange cyborg employee, her plans to return to her old life take an unexpected turn. A new paranoia has swept over the planet Absteria. "The Eden Experiment" is what it was called. At least to those who survived knowing its name. Tension builds between the two refugees as they prepare for a life-or-death investigation of the company they suspect is behind the project: a bionics megacorp by the name of Bader Co. However, Aami's hotheadedness is not one to coexist with Greg's passive demeanor, and the two must force themselves into cooperating. After all, if they want to make it out of the Experiment alive, they're going to have to play by each other's rules. - "The Eden Experiment" is an 85k new adult science-fiction and the first installment of a three-part series. The story is heavily character-driven, and includes themes regarding existentialism, found family, overcoming trauma, and optimism in the face of nihilism. A story for those looking for a tense techno thrill sweetened with moments of feelgood fluff. - Warnings: Violence, Graphic depictions of injury and death, Strong language - The Eden Experiment © 2024 Lone. ~PARAGON CINEMATIC UNIVERSE: PHASE 2, BOOK 7~ *This novel serves as the 7th and final novel of Phase 2 and a spin-off of "Mastermind".* "Look.....I know this whole 'dysfunctional family' thing's got you bogged down lately. And I think it's clear to me that you know what you want to do; you just haven't figured it out yet. So, come on! Let's go on an adventure to find your birth mother! What could go wrong?" -Erica Shields Ariel Axilas is a young African American woman who is wise beyond her years. So wise, in fact, that she has earned herself a full ride scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an opportunity to continue chasing her love for engineering. Deep down, though, she hides a secret; five years prior, she was the victim of a freak lab accident which granted her superhuman speed.....speed that she refuses to use in the present day for personal reasons that only she knows. Instead, she has decided to conceal her abilities and continue her studies at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her superpowers remaining unknown to everyone, friends and family alike. However, with the advent of superheroes around the world-as well as the ever-increasing guilt whenever someone is hurt through her failed intervention-only time will tell if she ever learns to come out of her shell. One of Ariel's close friends suggests that they go on an adventure to find Ariel's birth mother, who allegedly disappeared from her childhood under debated circumstances, and she initially agrees.....but when a familiar face from her recent past turns up again and tries to talk her into using her powers to serve their team, Ariel must make a decision: should she forever remain in obscurity and maintain her life of normalcy, or will she finally come out of the shadows and use the gifts she's been given?
