Winter, a season that once held the promise of the beauty of snowfall and the warmth of the holidays, had become a time of cold darkness for Penelope. The snowfall didn't remind her of cozy fires and hot chocolate, but rather a chilling reminder of the isolation and rejection she faced within the duchy. The once festive decorations seemed like mockery of the cheer that her life lacked, and the holiday traditions only served to highlight the absence of a loving family. Snowdrifts transformed the landscape, mirroring the frozen coldness she experienced from those around her. Snow and ice symbolized the barriers separating her from any sense of belonging.
