1974 marks the year of rising crime rates, gang violence and the brink of world wide warfare looming in the air. 

The story takes place in Los Aldeas, a fictional city based on Los Angeles, and it's time period of turmoil as one of the catalyst cities of the 1970s Crime Wave & 1980s Drug & Gang Wars across LA and its connections to global war amongst countries.

Kevin Sims is a 9 year old timid kid with a love for cars in the midst of a city already burning up with crime as gangs begin to take ahold of each block in South Los Aldeas. He follows his father and two older brothers on a path to manhood that he often struggles with because of his sensitive nature.
Caine Wilson is another 9 year old wiry kid that can't sit still, living in the bottom half of Los Aldeas in Alamo. Despite his jittery behavior, he's an outgoing kid with a talent for football and determination instilled him by his father at a young age. Him and his friend, Alvin,  would use these same skills to become hustlers and begin helping out their families.

Together watch these two young men become warriors for their tribes and how their good of their tribe will eventually lead to the demise of their city....

Happy who's torn between trying to fix things with Barbie or let her go as Juice deals with his betrayals packing up against the club as his new girlfriend finds herself easily loved by the club and it hasn't change after finding out couple months now, she's 7 weeks pregnant with Juice's baby.As Flaca also learns she's pregnant with Juice's kid as well as that puts strained on their new peaceful friendship. As The club finally comes face to face to traviesa Norteña, Flaca makes an devastating decision on her relationship with Samcro member Juice. Which ultimately leads to these last tragic moments. Trraviea makes Jackson and Flaca last love for each other company drained as Jax faces loss it heartbreaking put him in the Chola leader gang's arms.

In order to help pay half for rent, for her daughter, and for her boyfriend she is a local tutor in the neighborhood. When that doesn't work out... She goes into illegal situations in the streets in order to make the money every month. She ultimately has a breakdown and figures that nobody would ever truly love her until she met a guy, a guy who would love her, cherish her, and help take care of her. If only she would let him. It ain't easy growing up without good influences, but only Camille can figure out the pursuit of happiness in her teenage love affair.

Desperately in search of something new, Matt turns to a martial arts school that his best friend had recommended. Set in the beautiful beach town of Oceanside this first person narrative focuses on key experiences that Matt goes through during his first year of training. The novel takes the reader on a journey following him as he struggles with the demands of karate training, as he deals with new relationships surrounding him, and most importantly as he learns to live with the memories of the accident that while becoming more clear, still haunt and hold him back. The variety of people he meets as part of his training, some more eccentric than others, push him to try and answer the call; including the "beautiful" brown belt Cammie, who helps him try and fully face the memories of the accident. The idea is to showcase the world of hard core martial arts and integrate it into the challenges of overcoming serious trauma. It highlights how the power of being a part of a community in the fascinating world of martial arts can be surprising, challenging, yet transformative. With the advent of a series like "Cobra Kai" I believe there is interest in coming of age narratives that are set within the sometimes bizarre and mysterious world of martial arts. I personally love John Green's work and hopefully there is at least a taste of what he offers in terms of intensity and depth of character. The following "tags" I think would fit well in trying to describe the narrative : coming of age, drama, tragedy, karate, kata, fighting, romance, and recovery.
