PROLOGUE

"I'm so sorry," he whispers over and over, "couldn't you just be by my side, it wouldn't have happened, love"

His words were a torrent of longing, he didn't seem pleading for forgiveness and a chance to make things right. But the memory of his blank eyes, the cold steel of the blade, the excruciating pain that had ripped through my throat - it all came rushing back.

"Why?" I rasped, my voice weak and croaky.

I felt his grip tightening on me. "Because you looked like you forgot who you are destined to be, love, you belong to me I didn't mean to hurt you. I would never." he trailed off.

My gaze fell to his hands, the ones that had held the blade, the ones that were now desperately holding onto me.

I didn't know what to believe. He had tried to kill me and that man, yet he was now begging for forgiveness, It felt like a cruel joke, a twisted reality where love and violence coexisted.

"You have to understand, that you are mine, you belong to me, and to no one else." I stared at him, seeing the raw desperation in his voice. And for a moment, a flicker of hope ignited within me. Could this be real? Could this man, who had tried to end my life, truly be sorry?

He pulled me close, his arms holding me tight, his body shaking with the force of his emotions. "I love you," he whispered again, his words a plea, a promise.

"Say it back chéri" he said as i could see his eyes getting darker.

"I-i lov-e yo-u to-o" My throat still felt like sandpaper, my body ached, but the fear that had gripped me was starting to recede. This was a chance, a gamble. A chance to see if his love could truly atone for his actions. A chance to see if this shattered love could be rebuilt, piece by piece, from the ashes of betrayal.

"That's like my love" he said as he caressed my cheeks, I can not do anything I closed my eyes, and in the silence of the room, I held onto that hope, that sliver of a chance that maybe, just maybe, love could heal even the deepest wounds.

In the middle of a heated, desperate moment, to be hers forever... I flinched as he smashed the glass with his bare hands, my harsh accusations still hanging in the air between us. The shattering sound echoed through the room, a cruel symphony of heartbreak. Blood dripped from his knuckles, pooling onto the floor, and his eyes, glistening with unshed tears, locked onto mine. "I love you, Victoria!" he shouted, his voice laced with desperation. "God damn it! Why are you the only one who can't see it?" His words trembled with a mixture of anger and sadness, each syllable a plea. "Would any man go to such lengths for a woman he merely pities? Do you really think I'd bring you here, to this place, if I wasn't hopelessly in love with you?" His voice cracked, and I could see the vulnerability beneath his fury. "I love you. I need you. I can't keep pretending like I don't care anymore," he said, tears streaming down his face. "I hate how you smile at Kaden, how you blush around other guys. It kills me every time. "He took a step closer, his gaze never leaving mine, and reached out with his uninjured hand to gently cup my face. His touch was tender, contrasting with the storm of emotions raging inside him. "Just say you'll be mine, Vic," he whispered, his voice softer now, almost pleading. "I know you love me too." He was right. I did love him. Ever since that day I helped him with his tie, I had begun to care for him in ways I didn't want to admit. I had tried to deny it, tried to convince myself that I could never fall for the obnoxious jerk I once knew. But here I was, standing in front of him, my defenses crumbling, my heart laid bare. "I... I love you, Lewis," I confessed, my voice breaking as tears streamed down my cheeks. "I love you so much." And in that moment, surrounded by the shards of glass and the weight of unspoken feelings, I knew there was no turning back.

-- PROLOGUE "Let me get this straight. We have nothing in between us, except for the deal we made that day" he spoke in a monotonous tone. "I am the one carrying your name behind me; we are married. how can you say we have nothing in between us? Huh" She yelled at him, tears blurred her vision, and she spoke her heart to him. "For god's sake, this marriage was to save you! Can't you get that? I did not do it willingly, I do not love you!!" He yelled back at her, shattering her heart into pieces. "Why can't you just love me?" She spoke, as she cried the tears of hurt, and pain. Her heart thumped loudly due to the shivering sensation She felt all over her body. "I never made a commitment to you, or gave you any false hope, neither did i say that i love you. Did i?" He asked her, in a very cold tone. She looked at him through her teary eyes. It's getting difficult for her to even breathe. "It was your eyes, the damn eyes. Who gave me the false hope. They say, "Eyes speak the truth," but what about mine? Couldn't you feel the sincerity within them, expressing my deep affection for you? Why didn't you see the love shining in them? Was it too complex to understand? Couldn't you notice the warmth as they gazed at you? They search for you in every corner, If only you realized how they silently echoed the emotions I couldn't articulate. They say, "Eyes never deceive." But what about yours? They played a trick on me when they met mine, painting a facade of a world that wasn't real. They made me feel loved, Leading me into a belief that crumbled, louder than your spoken promises. Why did they betray me? Was it your eyes or you that masked the truth?" He stayed still, not moving or saying anything at her statement. --

What had I done? Rajveer Pratap Ranawat was a crime lord, king of the fucking underworld and I was here, in his den with nothing but a notepad and a pen. His presence was suffocating, bone chilling. "You think you can uncover my secrets, Miss Sharma?" His voice was a low, dangerous rumble, sending a shiver down my spine. "You're playing a dangerous game." I squared my shoulders, trying to muster the same bravado that had carried me into this lion's den. "I'm not playing," I retorted, my voice betraying a hint of defiance laced with unease. "I'm here for the truth, no matter how deep it runs." A predatory smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his dark eyes gleaming with something that sent a chill through me. "Oh, I know your kind," he murmured, taking a slow step closer until his presence enveloped me. "Bold on the surface, trembling underneath." "I'm not afraid of you," I insisted, though the way his fingers brushed against my arm sent a jolt of electricity through me. His expression hardened, his grip tightening just enough to convey his power. "You should be," he whispered, his breath hot against my cheek. "In my world, fear is survival." His eyes bore into mine with a primal intensity, a challenge and a warning wrapped into one. "You are already in deeper than you realize," he murmured, his voice softening imperceptibly. "And now that you are in, there is no turning back." The room seemed to close in around us and then is when I realised that I had stepped into a dangerous game-one where the lines between adversary and attraction blurred dangerously, threatening to consume me in ways I never imagined possible. "And you, my Dove," Rajveer's voice cut through the thick silence like a blade, chilling me to the core. His tone held a possessive edge, cold and commanding. "look like you are meant to be mine. And what is mine," he paused, his dark eyes boring into mine with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine, "stays with me."

The word hit me like a thunderclap, freezing every nerve in my body. I stared at him, wide-eyed, unable to comprehend if I had heard him right. They say Rudrgadh is built on blood-every stone in its palace walls, every whisper in its corridors, soaked in the weight of ancient betrayals. I never thought I would be part of that story. I was born in silence, raised in shadows. My mother taught me grace, my father taught me how to run, and neither of them ever spoke of the fire that once burned behind their eyes. We moved often, never staying long in one place. I grew up believing we were just wanderers... until the night I danced under the moonlight, near the sacred waterfall-and he saw me. King Veer Pratap Singh. The man who ruled with steel in his veins and a storm in his eyes. I had only heard tales of him-ruthless, undefeated, the people's savior and the enemy's nightmare. But when our eyes met, I didn't see a king. I saw a man standing still for the first time in years. And in that stillness, something inside me shifted. I should have run. But fate is cruel, and hearts are foolish. When his marriage proposal arrived at my doorstep, my world tilted. My parents went pale. Secrets long buried clawed their way to the surface. I didn't understand why they were afraid-until I learned the truth. Veer is searching for his parents' killer. And the man he seeks... is my father. Now I stand at the edge of a life I never asked for-torn between a love I never meant to find and a truth I can no longer run from. If I marry him, I betray my blood. If I leave, I betray my heart. How do you love the man who wants to destroy your family? And when that man looks at you like you're his only peace... how do you not love him back?

So you better say yes in front of the whole kingdom when I ask you to mark me," Damien said, glaring at me. "Never," I spat. "I will never mark you, you fucking hybrid," I said with all the anger inside me. "Then you leave me no choice," he said as his eye color shifted from hazel to a deep crimson red. His vampire side had taken over. He took a step closer, and my heart started pounding in my chest. I knew exactly what was going to happen next. This time, it was his vampire side. Last time, it was his wolf. Each time I resisted him, he hurt me, made me regret it. And now I knew he was going to compel me, force the answer he wanted out of me. I quickly shut my eyes tightly so he couldn't use his power against me. There was no point in running, I was already injured, already weak. A cold, dark laugh filled the room, sending a shiver down my spine. "My, my, look how afraid you are, my Sera," he mocked. I could feel him getting closer, his presence suffocating. Suddenly, he yanked my hair back, hard. I screamed in pain, but I refused to open my eyes. "Be my good girl and open your eyes, Seraphina," he commanded, his voice low and dangerous. "Never," I growled in defiance. I couldn't believe the Moon Goddess had mated me to this monster. I despised him. Every inch of my soul hated him. "Give me all the pain you want, but I will never obey you," I spat, my voice filled with hatred. He chuckled darkly. "Then, as you wish," he murmured. I barely had time to process his words before sharp pain pierced my neck. His fangs sank into my flesh with full force, tearing through my skin. I let out a blood-curdling scream as agony burned through me. My eyes snapped open involuntarily, locking onto his, and in that moment, I realized I had made a terrible mistake.
