The Kingdom of Taruschkan bleeds anew. Twenty-six years have passed since the Treaty of Arnoss, which many hoped would bring an end to the conflict between nations. Instead, the years between have been given nearly as much to war as they have to peace. The generations-long feud between the houses of Anaschen and Reschanant has entered its bloodiest and lengthiest period, calling upon all their alliances to settle once and for all who shall be pretender and who shall be king. As winter approaches, Prince Haeris Anaschen has withdrawn his armies into his family's ancestral stronghold of Mendolai; the House of Reschanant has resolved to strike in their enemies' absence.

Among those cities still loyal to the Anaschen cause, Kaschar remains the mightiest. Kaschar: City of Bells and last refuge of a pacifist holy order known as the Dorimins, never taken by force. But now that a Reschanant army bears down on it led by Count Dorias Valatin, Taruschkan's mightiest fortress must hold out against its most fearsome commander.
