Unwilling to subject her child to this harsh reality, Airil's mother, Maria, took it upon herself to shelter and educate him, teaching him the art of controlling his Ki and even the skill of flight. Maria herself was a full-blooded Saiyan, Airil owed his human heritage to his father, who was killed when Airil was born. In a fateful moment during one of their training sessions, two Saiyan guards inexplicably attacked Maria, threatening to expose their hidden existence. Overwhelmed and cornered, Maria's defenseless state triggered an intense surge of anger within young Airil.
