In his capacity as a planetary protection officer, Harry Coumnas contributed to the invention of plants that shield Earth from returned extraterrestrial samples, the formation and implementation of space policy, and the construction of sterile ships. He thinks that it is about preventing biological and organic pollution during human and robotic space exploration. Additionally, he thinks that the top goal for planetary protection in Mars exploration is protecting Earth from possible reverse contamination.
