**PREQUEL TO "COWBOY UP (COWBOY GANGSTER SHORT STORY)"** Heff Wilder's world is shattered when he receives word that his sister and brother-in-law, Mandy and Frank Zayne, have died in a car accident. Since the death of their parents when Heff was ten, Heff and Mandy were each other's rocks. Now, at just twenty-one, Heff suddenly feels lost and alone. Things get worse when he learns of a special clause inserted into Mandy and Frank's will concerning their horse ranch: Heff must live on the property and run the ranch with Frank's younger brother, Garland-or the ranch will be turned over to the state to be auctioned off. Five years ago, Heff fled the ranch to get away from Garland Zayne. How could he go back now and live with the one man who had hurt him most? Garland Zayne is shocked-and infuriated-by the unexpected clause in his brother's will. Garland had busted his back right alongside Frank to build the ranch up from nothing-the ranch should have rightfully gone to him. Focusing on his anger and confusion over the ranch distracted him from the unbearable loss of his big brother and the woman who had loved him like a sister. An avoidable loss that he caused-at least, that's what he believes. And now, amidst his grief, guilt, and anguish, he is forced to confront a troubling, painful past as well-in Heff Wilder. Facing the young man after five years stirs up memories both good and bad, but mostly bad as he can't forget how he wronged the boy-then turned on him, causing Heff to flee his presence and never return to the ranch. Until now. Now, Heff and Garland must learn to work together or lose the ranch. But before that can happen, they must confront the past... and that one night that ruined everything.

[ First Completed: 3/4/18 ] Currently undergoing revisions; slowly re-publishing as of May 2024 this is the first part of a three-part series It's a bit of a love story...and also not. Picture this: it's 2016, senior year of an average American high school. Popular kids, not-so popular kids, and the outcast. Enter Bruno Kelly Alano, a girl from halfway across the country with a personality that's earned her a variety of names - but the one she holds with pride, is "Loca." The girl everyone knows as the lunatic. Growing up with a rough life, she's led herself with a particular mindset that she's better off alone. Friends have come and gone. She's built up the armor to take a hit from the rest. Talking, communicating her deep thoughts and feelings just wasn't apart of the tricks up her sleeve. But then, like the age-old saying - he came into her life and changed it entirely. He's the sweetheart, popular kid. Not a bully, not a bystander, but someone who sticks up for others. Captain of the soccer team, everyone's looked at him as "perfect." The only oddity is for the past two years, everyone who knew him since kindergarten feel he's become much more reserved. Withdrawn. Son of some of the wealthiest people in America: Carter "Niko" Talivinci. Little did he know, hitting it off with the school "freak" would impact his life just as much. Two totally different people, from virtually two entirely different worlds. A rich boy and a lost cause. A know-it-all communicator, and a forgotten daughter. Their last year in high school, they learned much more of themselves and each other. That they could love again, heal one another's wounds, and share some outrageous memories involving the law, mental health, laughs, jerks, new friends, old friends, and much, much more. But, will love be enough to rescue her from herself?

Soleil Dubois was the sweetest person you could ever meet. Her name meant 'sun' in French and that was exactly what she was. Sunshine. But don't let that sweet personality fool you because she was sarcastic and had the mouth of a sailor. Cursed like one too. She was still grieving from the loss of her mother, along with her older brother, Lucas who wasn't doing too well either, but they had decided that some things were meant to let go of, and their mother's death was one of those things. And in order for that to happen, they decided to sign up for an exchange program that would be happening in their rival school; NorthFields Academy. The school that most of their competitions were held against, but the biggest one was Football. Every semester, NorthFields Academy and SouthFields Academy played against eachother, and the one who got the most goals by the end of the year would win trophies, more fame and money. That's when Elias Morano came in. He was the captain of the football team of NorthFields Academy and despised Lucas with all his heart. Their feelings were mutual for eachother, but for some reason, his eyes were always on Soleil, the one girl that hated him as well. The one girl he couldn't have. Why her out of everyone? And feelings build up when Soleil goes to NorthFields Academy for a month and a half to complete the exchange program. What's worse is that those football games would be more often and both schools would be playing against eachother. The worst thing is that Elias and Soleil are assigned together for the program, meaning they have to spend more time together. Soleil soon realises that what she feels for Elias isn't hate, its something more than that. But she can't do anything, can she? He is her brother's rival after all.

The first half of Kaylin Podmore's sophomore year of high school was pretty intense for someone who usually tries to keep away from the drama. It seemed like almost every day she spent her day fighting with someone, whether it was between her parents and her older sister Kimberly, her now ex-best friend, Grace Barnes, when they would mainly fight about or with Carson Hall and of course, Nichole Young, her boyfriend, Lucas Micthell's, ex-girlfriend. Now, it's the last month of the school year and the summer meets for Thoroughbred horse racing are kicking off, mainly focused on the elusive Triple Crown series which Faith's Magic, Kaylin's favorite filly, has been campaigning heavily for since the fall meets. Kaylin and Lucas are also going to be celebrating their one-year anniversary, which brings a whole new set of boundaries for the two of them to navigate with not only each other, but even their friends. The two of them spend their summer with their friends and family mostly up north in New York for horse races and celebrating multiple birthdays. They also spend time strengthening their relationship in more ways than one and having uncomfortable, but necessary conversations with friends and family about the changes in their relationship. As the summer break comes to an end, the drama from last year comes back around, the group prepares to see what the next school year will bring, as it's their time to buckle down to start figuring out what they want now that they're officially high school juniors and seniors.
