Meet Ruby Burke, a fresh out-of-credentialing-school teacher who is ready to take on the dying spirit of Goldcrest High's English department. The catch, however, is the recent merging of subjects in an attempt to promote learning across disciplines.

Enter Campbell Hendrix, Goldcrest's tenured History department chair. His aloof persona and strict teaching style has earned him the respect of many and the fear of the rest. When the school district decides to combine subjects, he begrudgingly sees the benefit. That is, until Ruby Burke.

Ruby and Campbell clash at first sight. Their feuding turns into an all-out war when the school district reveals that only one teacher will be kept for next year. Last one standing wins.
