In the fall of 1979, goth girl Claire Donovan and rebellious metalhead Dave Mustaine are forced to sit together in their senior year physics class. Claire, with her dark poetry and vintage vinyl, clashes with Dave's wild, guitar-shredding chaos. Initially united by mutual disdain, their shared lab table becomes a battlefield of sharp-tongued barbs and icy glares. As time goes on, the pair discovers that maybe they're not as different from each other as they initially assumed, an unexpected friendship sparking between, and possibly even more as Dave tries to prove his charming nature to Claire.
