Room For Improvement

High school senior Esme Green has always been hidden in the shadows of her cute and smart siblings. For years, Esme, the eldest granddaughter and essentially the less paid attention to middle child, has had her eyes on one goal: being better than her older brother. Except, it's hard to be better than someone your grandparents spend so much time gushing over. So instead, Esme has strived to be better than Salem Wilcox- her smart and charming academic rival of six years. But senior year, nothing is going the way either of the girls want when Salem and Esme find themselves being roommates.

Salem Issacs, the out and proud basketball captain at the all girls' boarding school the step-dad she has a conflicting relationship with pays for, likes to distract herself from the overwhelming pressures of taking care of her drug addicted mom with partying, dark humor, and her most favorite thing to do? Annoy her uptight, obsessively organized roommate Esme Green- who she's spent most of her years attending Mayfield Prep, bickering with. Somewhat attracted to the girl, Salem can't stand Esme, who unlike her, makes being smart and snarky her whole personality.

At first, the two find it hard to even exist in the same room- Salem always ready to irritate Esme by causing distractions when Esme would read or study and Esme always obsessing over Salem's neglected, oftentimes empty, unorganized space but as the year progresses, the two begin to realize just how much they understand each other and just how much being in each other's lives have affected them.
